At the end of a drive bordered by century-old trees, this 16th century country house, set in the heart of magnificent landscaped grounds, offers an exquisite, tranquil retreat, just minutes from Montpellier city centre. Contemporary furniture is a graceful companion to its beautiful old stones and meticulously restored antique mosaics which combine to create a cosy cocoon. The 17 hectares of Verchant vineyards which surround the house, produce wines which can be sampled in the restaurant served with Mediterranean cuisine. The spa is open to the surrounding grounds, with views over the vineyards, and is the ideal spot to relax or enjoy some personalised treatments. Marcelle Restaurant is closing temporarily for a renovation. It will reopen in spring 2025 with a spectacular new look and a new culinary philosophy. La Plage Restaurant remains open.

The Saint-James occupies buildings designed in 1989 by the famous architect Jean Nouvel. In this former hillside monastery in Mallorca, asceticism lives on in the décor, where white walls shine forth against the deep blue sky. The spa is a water and teakwood paradise using essential oils derived from the island flora. The swimming pool, a chic camping ground, provides large white parasols to ensure deckchairs remain in the shade. The rooms offer views of the sea, the olive tree orchards and the bay of Pollença. Organic produce, including olive oil, wine, citrus fruits and vegetables, is cultivated on the grounds and served in the restaurant. There is little inclination to venture out of this pleasant hotel, unless it is to head for the beaches or the golf course.
